Rules and Regulations

In maintaining Union Cemetery, it is the desire of the Ladies Social Gathering to create a place of beauty with a respectful atmosphere. To accomplish this, we have adopted the following rules and regulations.

Restrictions & Decorations

  • No fences, hedges, or enclosures of any kind will be permitted around spaces.
  • Space owners will use no breakable (glass, pottery, etc), solar, reflectors, shepherd hooks or metal decorations other than permanent urns.
  • Decorations will be removed when they become unsightly.
  • No trees or shrubs shall be planted on any spaces.
  • Markers in the Memorial section (Section 11) must be no more than six inches high with an apron extending four inches on all sides.
  • Plants set out on graves or vases of flowers are to be placed close to the markers. Nothing is to be planted in the ground.
  • Plants or boxes placed on graves must be removed by July 15th each year.
  • American or lodge flags placed on Memorial Day shall be removed by evening of that day unless special permission is obtained.
  • The board is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged items including monuments.
  • Only one stone per space is permitted. All monuments are to be set under supervision.
  • Foundations must meet cemetery requirements.
  • A monument in the shape of a bench will be permitted. Placement of any other type of bench will not be allowed.

Visitors

Visitors shall conduct themselves in a quiet and respectful manner and use walks and drives.

  • Picnics or parties are not permitted.
  • Firearms are prohibited except at military funerals or Memorial Day exercises.
  • Licensed vehicles are permitted on drives only; speed limit is 15 mph.
  • Dogs are not allowed.
  • Unauthorized persons are not allowed in the cemetery from sunset to sunrise. By state law, there is a fine of up to $500 for trespassing after hours.
